We came across this dazzlingly rambunctious Connemara Pony during a day spent exploring the hauntingly beautiful Doolough valley, in County Mayo, north of Leenane, Connemara. In 1849 Doolough was the scene of one of the worst tragedies of the Great Famine. (click here for the wikipedia link) In the 1990s, Bishop Desmond Tutu lead a hunger march there, just a few months before the Nelson Mandela and native South Africans gained their freedom. And now that amazing picture frame: I stumbled across it in an antique shop in upstate New York. One of the most beautiful things I'd ever laid my eyes on, despite its slight damages. I cleaned it up, gave it a coat of satin finish Poly, intending to make a mirror out of it. Instead I decided to create a special painting expressly intended for this frame. C'est finis!
