This monarch added a tone of serenity to the quiet lanes and endless stone walls of Inishmaan, the most remote of the Arans. She may have been looking across to the distant grey mountains of Connemara, or perhaps watching the slow progress of the ferry as it moves across Galway Bay. Her forebears were brought over in wooden curraghs and she's always been a fan of J.M. Synge, whose cottage is just a bit on down the lane.
