"Joanie the bog" (Siobhán na bPortach) is the local Irish name for the heron here in the part of County Cork that this panting depicts: the hanutingly beautiful Gougane Lake at Gougane Barra. It is early on a gorgeous October morning and the rising sun is illuminating the mist on the lake. Here is a photo of the beautifully framed painting hanging in the entrance lobby of the Gougane Barra Hotel.
